Tour of the Wawel Cathedral (Last touring post... I think.)

The last place we toured was the Cathedral at Wawel Castle. It is a very important cathedral in Poland because it is where all the Polish kings were crowned. Outside of it are dragon's bones which are really made of whale and rhino. It's cool to see them because you can really imagine them being from a dragon. In the cathedral there are many tombs of Polish kings and queens and after royalty had gone from Poland, there are even the remains of national heroes in tombs. I thought the Gothic artwork was very pretty and well done. There were too many different kings and saints in the church to really tell about, but one guy who is there is the famous Sobieski.
Plik:ZygmuntDzwon.JPGWe got to climb the bell tower and see the bell called Dzwon Zygmunta. The climb up was on wooden stairs and we had to squeeze through small openings, but the view at the top let us see a lot of Krakow. There was also  a superstition about the bell that if you touch it with your left hand and think of the person you love, then you will marry them in a year. I did get to touch the bell with my left hand, but the most I was hoping for was good luck. It was a short day of touring and hopefully the next posts will be more about the crazy stuff that happens during the study abroad semester.
